A bit of a slow news day so I figured I'd throw out some rumors I heard a little while back. According to ESPN, in MLB 09: The Show, players will be able to use a microphone to heckle the other teams players during the game. While an inventive idea, my concern is that games would turn into little more than shouting matches. Online play may be pretty cool though if you were able to have a group of spectators begin chants which would negatively effect a players confidence and cause them to choke up. Again though, there would have to be pretty big limits to this new feature because if every major league player choked because some drunken asshole was yelling at them we wouldn't have much of a national pastime. The Timothy Plan, a company that helps families invest their money only in other companies that adhere to strict Judeo-Christian beliefs, has released its list of the most offensive video games of 2007 and 2008 and boy is it a laugh riot. The Timothy Plan rates the games in everything from demonic and homosexual overtones to violence and comic mischief. Everything from Grand Theft Auto IV to World of Warcraft are rated and criticized in a completely blind and bias fasion. It's worth checking out for a good laugh although I did find myself getting pretty aggravated at the ignorance of these religious fanatics. The games on the list aren't a surprise so much as what they had to say about them. Just to give you a little taste of how the list went, here's an excerpt for their review on Army of Two:

"Gay & Lesbian: Homosexual Themes: Although never spoken of, undertones of homoseuality are present. Weaponry in the game can be decorated to be anything from diamond encrusted to gold plated. You share a parachute with your partner, and the riot shield system allows one player to use a shield or car door as portable cover while the other cuddles up close behind and dispenses "lead' from his "iron".

Pretty ridiculous shit. They seem to find every little thing about a game and give it something that is somehow offensive. I feel like I'm reading an article by Fox news reading this list. I don't know how "lead" and "iron" could be used sexualy but then again maybe I'm just not behind on my knowledge of sexual inuendos. Fuck you Timothy Plan.

The screens above are for the content releasing later this month known as Operation Anchorage.
It appears to be a icy baron wasteland this time around by taking place in Alaska. New weapons and armor also appear to be available. This should be a big pack for only 800 Microsoft points which equals out to about 10$.
There has also been news saying the level cap will rise to 30 with the release of "Broken Steel", the third installment of DLC that will be available in March. It has been said all the DLC packages will be 10$ each. Continue Reading»

Pretty cool news from Blizzard today. Dark Templar, the shadowy psi-blade using units from the original Starcraft are up for an upgrade. Or not. The deal is Blizzard is giving the fan community the chance to vote on which type of Dark Templar to use in the upcoming game. We the fans have three choices. The first choice is the Lenassa tribe, the units from the original that used a single warp blade and had their faces covered with a cloak. The second choice is a new unit from the Zer'atai tribe that wield a dual scythe and wear the bones of Zerg for their armor. The dual scythes aren't two singular scythes but instead a single staff with a scythe on each end which gives it a kinda Darth Maul feel to it. When I saw the above picture and was reading about both units I was a little upset that only one of these bad ass units would make it into the final game. Fear not though because luckily the third choice is to have both of them in the game. When a player creates a Dark Templar unit, the unit that pops out will be randomized between the two.
This game really cannot come soon enough.

While on the topic of Mass Effect, I recently discovered that the highly esteemed main character, Shepard, did not make his debut in this game. In fact the character was based off of a male model by the name of Mark Vanderloo ....Terrible. Do yourself a favor and create your own Shepard if you decide to take Mass Effect for another spin.

The movie adaptation of "Enders Game", the classic sci-fi novel, has reportedly been scrapped according to the author, Orson Scott Card. Card, unhappy with the direction producers wanted to take it, put an end to the adaptation. Card went on to explain he would not let Hollywood turn his book into a "tough-hero action film. …the human relationships are absolutely essential — an honest presentation of the story.” While I personally hate Orson Scott Card for being an ignorant, hateful, bat shit insane homophobe that wants to overthrow the U.S. government, Ender's Game is one of my favorite books and I like knowing it's author won't let his story get molested by Hollywood for a easy pay day. I was only going to write a small thing about this in the other article but it turned into a pretty big rant so I thought the topic deserved it's own article. A little thing I heard a while back said the Tom Clancy teams were trying to mesh all the different franchises together into one big story. They've already hinted at it in the Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon games but no definite proof of the series existing in one universe has ever been given. For example, in Ghost Recon you might call down an air strike on a fortified position. In the new series being developed called H.A.W.X, you will actually fly that mission and bomb that target. As cool as it sounds, I'm still up in the air about this one. Playing all the different parts of a war such as the assassin/spy in Splinter Cell, the covert team in Rainbow Six, the full out military team in Ghost Recon, and the fighter pilots in H.A.W.X could make for very interesting story possibilities as in each game you decipher more parts of the puzzle. On the other hand though, any setback, such as the huge delays in the development of the newest Splinter Cell could cripple the story or force every other game to be worse for it. Also, every series is fairly different from each other in game play. While I enjoy all of them, some people may not like stealth games like Splinter Cell or tactical shooters like Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. If they make each game a must play in order to understand the story, it will seem more like a gimick to get money than an actual attempt to make an epic Tom Clancy story. I'd really like to see how other people feel about this so don't be shy about posting your opinions. Anyone that knows me knows that I love any game with the name Tom Clancy on it. I've played Ghost Recon since its debut and playing split screen Rainbow Six on the N64 is still one of my favorite gaming experiences. Rainbow Six 3 on the Xbox was the game that got me into competitive online gaming and Ghost Recon:Advanced Warfighter was really the first next generation game of systems out now. While some people may hate them and haven't touched a game in the series since I ripped them so bad five years ago(Dave), I am extremely psyched at the prospect of getting new installments of both franchises by the end of the year. For anyone that hasn't played Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, the story hasn't been completely finished yet and I remember developers originally stating it would be a trilogy. Rainbow Six:Vegas' story on the other hand, seems to have been concluded with 2, so it will probably be a new story all together. All that we need now is for Splinter Cell:Conviction to come out of development hell and we can finally have the big three together again. Continue Reading»

Patch 3.0.8 for World of Warcraft will be releasing soon and without come a few welcome changes. Death Knights can now be created on any server as long as you have a 55+ level character. Previously you could only make a character on the same server as your higher level chraracter. Mount restrictions have also been lifted for different races. Multiple clicks to harvest ore are not needed anymore. One mouse click will harvest all the ore the rock has. One of my favorite changes is to the death mechanic. 60 new graveyards have been added in Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms and the run speed of a person in spirit walk has been increased. Hopefully this means no more five minute walks back to your corpse now.

Before I say anything, lets just get this out of the way. I am a huge Gears of War fan. I love the game and think it's just a great all around game to play with friends. That being said, a good amount of problems exist in the sequel's multiplayer. While we always complained about the horrendous matchmaking and the nearly unstoppable chainsaw, I never thought it was this bad.

Infamous is a tittle I have been keeping in the corner of my eye. Although nothing has really impressed me, this trailer has given me some reassurance that it will be a solid game. Infamous is a tittle that looks very similar to a game known as Prototype and that bothers me a bit. I'm sure in due time reviews on both games will tell which one is superior. Well World of Warcraft has done it again. Won't be surprised to see all the game hating assholes using this case as ammunition soon. After facing a permanent ban by a Blizzard GM, a 17 year old boy told the employee that he was suicidal and World of Warcraft was "the only thing he had to live for." The employee immediately called 911 and the teen was arrested on misdemeanor charges. Good to see that the GM did the right thing in this situation and called authorities even though the kid admitted to lieing in order to "get what he wanted for the game." Whether the kid was bullshitting or not, he's pretty pathetic and should be shot. Just my opinion anyway. Continue Reading»
