Good: McLovin Gets Kick-Ass

New details have leaked out along with the above image about Mark Millar's violence fest, "Kick-Ass". Kick-Ass is the story of Dave Lizewski, a comic obsessed teenager who decides to dress up and become a vigilante. The great thing about this comic is that it doesn't happen in fantasy world where Dave, a geeky unathletic kid, is able to beat up thugs and criminals. Dave actually spends most of the first four issues getting the absolute shit beaten out of him. He is stabbed, beaten, stomped, hit by a car and worse, all within the first issue. During his second fight with a group of thugs, being only slightly more successful, a bystander recorded the fight on a camera phone and uploaded it to Youtube and sparks an internet phenomenon around the world. Many other(mostly mentally ill) people become vigilantes themselves with some terrible and hilarious results. There's no shortage of cursing or violence in this comic and multiple times I've found myself laughing out loud and being shocked at the same time. I couldn't even believe Millar and Romita could get away with some of the things they put on the page. I don't want to give too much away but just know an eleven year old girl cuts the head off of a drug dealer with a katana.

So anyway, pre-production on a movie regardless of the fact the series is only four issues in but its generated a decent amount of buzz with some of the people involved. Nick Cage, has signed on to play an NYPD cop who trains his eleven year old daughter to become a murderous vigilante. The biggest news is that McLovin himself, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, has signed on to be the movies villain (the Robin looking guy on the left). As of now, they're shooting for a late 2009 release date but do yourself a favor and pick up the four issues that are already out. You won't be disappointed.
